Getting started

I purchashed a 2001 zx-12 a month ago, I have checked out the dyno jet stuff and I dont see the point in adding all the extra stuff when its all right there already. So now I want to get started with this programming the factory box, I have downloaded Enginuity and my maps, just to check them out and get familiar with them. Any way, I need to know what all I need to get this project going. Is there any other software I need other than enginuity, also what is used to convert s19 and bin files back and forth. I dont have a serial port on my laptop so I am looking at the usb P&E adapter http://www.pemicro.com/products/product_viewDetails.cfm?product_id=15320024&CFID=137902&CFTOKEN=89dd317ac87fd8d3-3A90A32F-E5B2-2A7E-23D3CA05737BB287 Is there any thing else I need other than sending my ecu to bikeland for modification? I see not much action on here for awhile, but I would be very appreciateive if you guys can get me heading the right way, I dont want to spend a bunch of money on crap I dont need.

You can save $77 if you buy just the USB-ML-16/32 and Prog16z separately instead of the development package you linked to. You don't need the IDZ or WinIDE software.

You will also need a small adapter cable but it comes with my bikeland modification.

Your right about there not be much interest. I guess because it is an older discontinued bike plus it costs a lot more to get set up to flash these ECUs. I have modified a couple dozen ZX-12 ECUs thru bikeland but most of them have been for mini-sprint race cars.

So I do need that software? Is that also used for the conversion of the s19 and bin files too? I know what your saying, I think I have read almost every thread on the net about the 12, there are a lot of them used in different sorts of cars. I knew about needing the other cable, wish I could find someone out there that purchased all the stuff and then changed their mind, it doesnt cost much more to flash the ecu over getting a pcr3 and ignition module, and the 2 of them together still wont do what as much for the bike. I am a little nervous to though, all ajustments I make will tested real world, so I might ask around for some sample maps from others to get a further feel for making adjustments before I go changing values. Thanks for responding to my questions, I need as much help on this as I can get, especially with you being the pioneer on figuring out the 12's ecu.

The conversion utilities are freeware... bin2mot.exe (binary to motorola s19) and mot2bin.exe (vise versa) They should be in the 12 forum somewhere.

As for equipment cost the difference is that unlike a PC3 it doesn't need to be installed on the bike. Several guys could split the cost of one programmer unit and pass it around.

Very true, too bad I am the only one I know with a zx12, havent even seen another one. I actually set out with 7500.00 looking for a nice 10 and ended up with a excellent condition 12.

Also what can I expect for a turn around time on my ecu? I will be sending it in hopefully in the next couple weeks, waiting on reimbursment of travel from the government. Dont want to be down too long, its finally getting nice out. Is there any one here that has maps that will work on a 2001, I have a stock header with bolt on Ti oval can and K&N filters, going to a full Muzzy race exhaust with BMC filters. Nothing else is done to the bike, Has any one figured out how to do the A and B maps?

Turn around time is one day. The amount of time depends more how much your willing to pay for shipping.

So any word on how exactly the A-B map thing is done, is it a short of 2 wires after shutting down the bike? Also where in the software is the feature? I am pretty sure I have read every post about this subject, I have been reading on here and a few other forums you guys are on for the last month and a half. But havent seen a how to on it yet.
