RE-replacement crystal for the 32bit ECU

If your planning on flashing your 32 bit ECU for rev limits, etc and you have previously had the ECU 'crystal modification' or 'chipped' to up the RPM you really should replace the 10.27MHz mod crystal with the orginal 10Mhz stock value.

The correct part from DigiKey.com is 535-9065-1-ND. They are about $0.56 but I think the have a minimum order deal.

Here is where the crystal is on the ECU

Who ever did this unit used a thru hole crystal instead of the surface mount type it was designed for. The Digikey part# above is for a surface mount.

Notice the green corrosion on the crystal? This is most likely caused by applying too much silicon to seal it up. Most silicon uses acetic acid as a solvent (hence the viniger smell). If you pile it on to thick the top of the heap dries and creates a vapor seal the prevents the silicon up against the board from ever drying.

Perputally soaking your circuit boards in acid is not a good thing. It could eat through the copper traces and it conducts electricity which could screw up the circuit.

You should use a sealer designed for electronics or if you use silicon apply a very thin layer against the board, let it dry completely then top it off with silicon.
