BDM problems

I'm trying to get a DIY interface working with Prog16z. I have the signals looking OK but Prog16z is saying that it can't communicate with the processor, check the cable and power supply. I have VCC on pin 13/S4 and ground on pin12/S4 as shown in the Czech guys circuit. PE aren't any help, I've had a tech support request in for 2 weeks.
I've got some activity on the /BERR pin, I'm not sure why this is, maybe I should just tie that pin high. The processor appears to be responding with all zeros, the leading bit being zero indicating a valid response.
Does anyone have any further information on this?

I managed to establish that Prog16Z isn't compatible with the Public Domain interface or the earlier ICD16 interface. Looking at the signals and modifying the circuit to suit I did get basic communications with the ECU but then couldn't load the PE config file. I've been working on the OBD interface software but I should get back to this soon, the winter is coming so I'll be devoting more time to indoor projects.
Theres a guy on a SAAB forum who has been working on software:

I haven't been able to register on there to get involved with that project, it looks like it could be a really cheap alternative to the PE stuff.
