just a bit stuck with my interface. used the schematic of the 2011 pcb and made it up on a hobby board. I have pretty much just gone off these diagrams and the pcb diagram from pcb123
The bike is now running a very modified k7 harness with a 21h60 in a k1 1000.
datalogging and engine data work fine no problems showing all the right error codes but when I go to verify or flash it gives me an error message. "unexpected or missing ecu response during initialization programming aborted 0.0"
Ive belled out all my connections with a multimeter, double checked all resistances have checked 17/29 pins are seated and all connections have continuity.
I can check my error codes when in data mode but when I put it in programming mode the dash shows CHEC. is this meant to happen?
so far I have gone over everything just starting to think I might have done something to this ECU. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks for the help, Its probably something simple. I really was hoping it would be just something wired backwards but Ive checked things backwards and forwards quite a few times now and I cant find any problems with the wiring or the interface circuit but if it works for datalogging theres only so much that could be wrong with it. just not sure which part of the circuit to look at.
I got the parts list from another post on this site as a base. Also used boerds diagram as a reference but Im pretty much learning as I go here but do a bit of basic electronics at work so I do have some idea of how it works but not too sure about ttl/serial comms.
Is the CHEC definately meant to be on the dash with flashing mode working normally?
there must be some issue with the harness or the connector but ive checked it, Im probably just missing something simple... so the requirements for flashing to work are for the bike to be in neutral, kill switch on, kick stand down, headlights dont matter with the new pcb design right. if any of this faults does it throw the same code?
5 * 10KOhm 1 * 1MOhm 2 * 100KOhm 1 * 6.8KOhm 1 * 1KOhm + 1KOhm between the brown FTDI USB wire and the board2011v1.0 1 * LM393 Low voltage Dual Voltage Comparator 1 * 1uF, 25V elco (electrolytic capacitor) 1 * 1N series signal diode 1 * FTDI TTL-232R 5V version USB/serial Cable 1 * Tyco MTA306D switch, or alike as tyco is very expensive 2 * M23S05K351 connector pins
actually, I started looking into this and I got a slightly different part number thinking it was the new model ftdi cable. is there a chance this could be the problem?
TTL-232R-5V-WE
Version 1 cable. Supports +5V based UART signalling and +5V/75mA based power output.
TTL-232RG-VSW5V-WE
Supports +5V based TTL level UART signals and +5V / 450mA power output
scratch the old edit you can flash the settings for max current on the cable to whatever you need - cool piece of gear... spent a long night belling out connections and rechecking everything. still no luck... a bloke at work is a serial comms guru though hopefully he can shoot me in the right direction
The cable has led's for TX and RX during datalogging the tx and rx both intermittently illuminate, during verify or flashing attempts tx operates for a short period (Rx stays unlit) and then the error occurs, its pretty obvious that there is no response but I guess this might be a good clue for exactly which line to trace. my 1M resistor doesnt seem to be too accurate either.

The most likely thing is you have the TX and RX backwords.
You have the 12v, gnd, and K-line correct or it would not show datalog.
Im a noob, I just assumed that the tx on the pcb went to the tx on the ecu and same with the rx, swapped them and it started working straight away. thanks mate definately owe you a beer for that one...
i'm a noob at this and looking for some assistance on getting the interface. I see the instructions but confused on how to get this ordered and putting everything together. Please help.
hey there, to be honest looking back after making the interface myself. I would have saved alot of time by buying the interface off justin or greg, jkwool/ smithabusa. I dont mind playing around with ths stuff and Ive learned alot so its no problem but I did have some interference issues most of which were fixed by shielding all of my longer cables on my hobby board.
I dont mind helping anyone out where I can but you are wrong if you think that spending $200 on an interface like this is a waste of money, it does all of the datalogging and the flashing its great and considering power commander/bazzaz units are selling for twice that you should give it some thought. It is a sweet setup...
At very least I would recommend using the PCB123 ecueditor design instead of a hobby board it will save you alot of trouble ( if anyone is ordering pcb's put me down for a group buy). Hopefully justins bluetooth prototype comes through, that will be a sweet bit of gear...
p.s Thought I would edit this with a note for people making their own interface. do not measure the transmission percentage until you have the whole bike together and running. I have found that having the headlights off and cooling fan disconnected and other random things can directly effect the successful transmission percentage of the fast logging unit. Turns out mine is now working perfectly with 100% at 50 ms and that is with a greencap capacitor worked much better heard ceramic is good too.

I know this is an old thread and its for a GSXR 1000, but i was hopping someone can help me with the connections for a GSXR600 K6 so that i can connect a FTDI 232RL adapter cable to the SDS plug so that i can "run" a diagnostic on the bike to see what codes are there...
The bike has no Spark and the dash is only with the backlight but its not working properly so i cant make the dealer mode to see codes in the dash...
Can anyone help me out?
I already made a thread here in the forum and i was hopping to get some help on this...
