Hi guys, I'm usually just lurking here soaking up the great info. So, Ive noticed that Flashtune has come out with a new FTDI open license interface that you can install on the bike permanently for usb flashing track-side. I have purchased the 1st and second version of the interfaces they were initially selling. Now knowing that you can flash the R1 in the same fashion as the Suzuki's, my question is- shouldn't an FTDI that we use for the suzukis work ?. Ive tried to sniff the lines while flashing a spare ECU to my 2011 R1 with some basic stuff I have in the garage. A volt meter and an old Actron automotive tester that can show frequency and read the old 1 wire 02 sensors, which allowed me to determine which line is a commo line. However, there only seems to be 1 communication line??? below is what Ive verified so far. Im hoping someone can interpret what exactly is going on as far as which line is doing what. I don't believe the colors coincide with the FTDI wiring colors even though they have the same color wires...ADDED- I also should mention that it appears that they are using the same FTDI level converter USB cord that most of us have purchased from mouser, which I do have one that Ive used to write suzukis with.
These are what I get from the lines when the USB connector is plugged into the computer but NOT writing the ECU;
Black- Ground Red- is 12VDC Yellow- 5VDC Green - 5VDC Orange - 5VDC Blue- 3.8 VDC Brown- Low (ground or very close to 0VDC)
This is what I get when the ECU IS being written;
Black- Ground Red- is 12VDC Yellow- 5VDC VCC ? Green - 5VDC Appears to show communication during first half of flash. Orange - Low- But seems to be communicating at a low voltage (under 3VDC) during second half of flash. ETV and fuel I believe are two different serial programming lines which would make sense. Blue- 3.8 , but communication indicated by Actron
Im not very savvy with this stuff but know almost enough to get myself in trouble lol. If anyone can help me , it would be nice to be able to make my own harness. Ive already spent 800 bucks with flash-tune. They have a great product, but I don't wanna have to fork over another 370 bucks. Brown- Low (ground or very close to 0VDC)
